Tooth removal & extractions

Dr. Patel will always explore every option for saving your tooth, but there are times when this is not possible. For that reason, our office provides professional tooth removal and extractions in-house.

When do you need an extraction?

Good oral hygiene combined with professional cleanings and exams can go far to prevent extractions. Traditionally, periodontal disease, severe decay, or infection can require the removal of teeth. And while these are commonly the result of poor oral hygiene, sometimes needing an extraction is out of your control.

For example, trauma, injury, and impacted teeth may also require tooth extraction to prevent further complications. Similarly, we may remove teeth to begin orthodontic treatment when over-crowding prevents teeth from being properly cared for. Another reason we may remove fragile or unhealthy teeth would be to make room for dentures or bridges.

Wisdom teeth removal

Your wisdom teeth are the last teeth to grow in, usually in your late teens or early twenties. Because they are the last to grow in, there usually isn’t enough room in the mouth for them to emerge. And without the space they need to grow, wisdom teeth can become impacted.

Since they can cause pain and infection; we often recommend getting your wisdom teeth extracted. Fortunately, this is a very simple, common procedure at our office.

Most wisdom tooth removal and extractions take about an hour or less. Dr. Patel will provide sedation and local anesthetics so you can be completely relaxed and not feel any pain.

Afterward, we will provide instructions to help you heal quickly and prevent complications. With proper care, your mouth will be back to normal in just a few days.
